Frequently Asked Questions:
These questions and answers are from the survey, remind, and email messages. If you have more questions, send them over!
What work can I do to improve my grade?
For AP chemistry students: The kinetics and equilibrium assignments on my website can be completed for credit. Additionally, the AP classroom practice and FlinnPrep practice can also be completed for credit.
For Honors chemistry students: The Disappearing Spoon book questions and the assignments in the solutions unit can be completed for credit.
How will the work be graded?
Each assignment will be work five points and will be entered into the Notebook category for Honors Chemistry and the Assignment category for AP chemistry.
Is this work new assignments, replacing old assignments, or extra credit?
All of the assignments are new assignments and will be counted purely as extra credit. The more assignments you do, the more extra credit you will get.
Is the work optional or mandatory?
The work is optional, but will help with your overall understanding of chemistry. It is also extra credit for your grade.
I don’t have a printer. What do I do?
That’s okay! Just recreate the worksheet the best that you can. Please include the question if you are recreating it. Also, handwritten work is strongly preferred.
How do I submit the work?
You can submit the work by taking pictures and sending it to me on remind or via email. Whatever option is easiest for you. If you are unable to do this, contact me individually.
What are the due dates for what you are assigning?
The due date for any and all work is Friday, May 29th. I need a few days to make sure everything is entered and finalized. But DO NOT wait until then, do the work now. I am going to be entering points for the assignments already turned in this week. So watch your grade if you have turned stuff in already.
Can we have Zoom meetings?
Yes! We can! There are lots of teachers scheduling Zoom meetings so I will work on sending out an invite soon.
If I’m in honors chemistry and I am taking AP chemistry next year, then will I be prepared? What will happen?
To be honest, I’m not totally sure. I know that Ms. Meadows (the other AP chem teacher) and I are working on it. For sure, we will have chemistry bootcamp right at the start of school to catch us up the best we can. There will be more information to follow.
I haven’t heard from other teachers. What can I do?
Reach out to them via email or their remind accounts (if they have them). Or if that doesn’t work, try social media outreach on their Twitter or whatever. If you cannot reach a teacher then let your counselor know so they can help get you in contact.
I’m bored. What can I do?
I put some cool things to do under the general information tab and will add some as I find them.
How do I keep a schedule to make myself stay focused and organized during this time?
I strongly suggest setting daily goals- but no more than three things. So decide on the three things you are going to do today. At least one of them should be something to help you mental health. For example, I am going to work on my chemistry assignment for 45 minutes, I am going to email the teachers I haven’t heard from, and I am going to reorganize my pajama drawer. The last one doesn’t seem like a mental health goal, but it is. It will make you feel like you are accomplished. Also, set alarms on your phone to help you keep a consistent schedule. Schedule your bedtime and your wake-up time, schedule meals if you can, schedule anything!
Mrs. Click! How are you doing?
Honestly, this experience has been so difficult. I sincerely love my job and students and am grieving this time lost. All teachers know that you really hit the sweet spot in classes generally in February and then continue through the year and that is the amazing time we have lost. Otherwise, we are doing okay. I am trying to find ways to keep my kids motivated to do their school work! This week’s motivation is a water balloon fight this weekend if they do their stuff! Also, there isn’t much cleaning happening! Hahaha, as soon as I clean up one mess another one is made!
I really feel like baking, can you recommend any brownie recipes?
I challenge you to make blondies instead of brownies! Blondies have the same consistency as brownies but have a butter and brown sugar base instead of chocolate. They are a family favorite. Here is a recipe that I have used, but drop the butter by about two tablespoons (otherwise very buttery!).
What will the plan be when we go back to school? What will the schedule be? Will we have a longer school year?
Those are the million dollar questions. Everyone is trying to figure that out. As soon as I know something concrete, then I will pass along the information!
How do we turn in our textbooks?
I know that Mrs. Williams (the librarian) is working on a plan for this. For right now, gather all of you textbooks and put them somewhere safe all together so when there is a plan you are ready.
